THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Sunday, February 11, 2007.

James E. Henderson, Jr., 79, died at Heartwood House in Ames on Feb. 6, , surrounded by his family.

Jim was born in Illinois and lived most of his life in the south suburbs of Chicago. He was a plumbing contractor in the family plumbing business.

He is survived by his former wife, Betty Henderson, of Iowa; sons Jim and wife Ann, of California, Jon, of Colorado, Kim, of California; nine grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters. He also is survived by one sister Ann (Ed) Brink, of Illinois, and a brother Tim Henderson, of Indiana.

His parents Jim and Lelah Henderson preceded him in death.

He will be remembered for his big smile and sense of humor. He enjoyed sailing on Lake Michigan, preparing food for large gatherings of family and friends, solving mechanical problems and helping others.

According to his wishes, he will be cremated, and his family will have a private memorial service at a later date.

The family expresses grateful appreciation to the staff at Heartwood House for the love, care and joy given to Jim over the past two years, and to Pastor Jim Roth of Colo Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to Heartwood House of the Northcrest Community, 1801 20th St., Ames, IA 50010, or Colo United Methodist Church, 602 Fourth St., Colo, IA, 50056.

Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
