Ronald Plumb died Tuesday, Jan. 30, after a long battle with scleroderma. Memorial services celebrating his life were Feb. 5 at Faith United Methodist Church in Champaign, Ill.

Ronald Richard Plumb was born April 8, 1946, in Garden City, Mich., to Charles and Bettie Cork Plumb. His family moved from Michigan to Ames in 1957. He married his high school sweetheart, Carol Jean Sorenson, Sept. 10, 1965, in Ames, and graduated from Iowa State University in 1968. Two beautiful daughters were born to Ron and Carol, Michelle Rene and Marcy Christine.

His career included 25 years with the JC Penney Company in Ames and Davenport, and Galesburg and Champaign, Ill. He also sold healthcare insurance policies in Illinois and Indiana, where he met so many wonderful people in the rural areas. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Champaign.

In his earlier years, he enjoyed hunting and the great outdoors. He also loved golfing, and spent many, many hours with friends trying to master this challenging game.

He was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, Carol, of Champaign; his mother Bettie Plumb, of Sebring, Fla.; one sister, TerryAnn Smalley, of Cadott, Wis.; and one brother, Dennis Plumb, of Fresno, Calif. Also surviving are his two beloved daughters, Michelle Reed and son-in-law Gordon Reed, of Danville, Ind., and Marcy Birchfield, of Catlin, Ill. He loved being with his family and especially his grandchildren, who were the joy of his life - Brandon and Hannah Birchfield, and Katie, Matthew, Michael and John Reed. These grandchildren filled his life with love and so much spirit during his illness.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be sent to Pulmonary Rehabilitation Research, Indiana University School of Medicine, c/o Indiana University Foundation, P.O. Box 663802, Indianapolis, IN 46266.

Morgan Memorial Homes in Savoy, Ill., was in charge of arrangements.
