Ervin L. Fickel, 93, of Ames, died Sunday, Jan. 21. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at Nortminster Presbyterian Church in Ames.

Ervin L. Fickel was born Jan. 1, 1914, in Fairfield to Effie (Bonnett) and Alfred Fickel. He graduated from Fairfield High School then went on to Fort Madison Business College. He earned a bachelor's degree in commerce from the University of Iowa. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Lions Club, the ZaGaZig Shrine, the Masonic Lodge of Ames, VFW and American Legion. He was a session member and deacon of Northminster Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed his career as an accountant, from which he retired in 1982. He also enjoyed woodworking, golf, crossword puzzles and sporting events.

He is survived by his wife, Vida; one nephew; and eight nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Earl, John and Elvin Fickel; and one sister, Esther Hollander.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to the Ames Evening Lions Club or to Northminster Presbyterian Church.

Brooks Funeral Care in Des Moines is in charge of arrangements.
