Veva Alleman, 91, formerly of Slater, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, in Madrid. Arrangements are pending with Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home in Slater.

April 27, 1915-Jan. 17, 2007Veva Maxine Alleman, 91, of the Madrid Home, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, Jan. 17. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, at Campus Baptist Church in Ames. Her body will be laid to rest in Sheldahl Cemetery.
Veva Maxine Alleman was born April 27, 1915, to Will and Ora Cooper. She wed Howard Alleman Dec. 19, 1936, at home in Ames. They farmed four miles south of Slater all of their married life before he died Feb. 5, 1989. They were charter members of Campus Baptist Church, where she was church secretary for more than 20 years. She was a member of the Friendship Club of Slater. An avid bowler, she also wrote poetry and short stories. But her passion was teaching children about Jesus Christ through Awana, Good News Clubs, vacation Bible school and public speaking.
She is survived by two daughters, Sheila (Aaron) Alleman, of Des Moines, and Michele (Buddy) Gibson, of Polk City; three sisters, Northa Glee Cooper, of Ames, Marilee (Deb) Golike, of Grand Junction, Colo., and Marlys (John) Scott, of Slater; four grandsons, Jeff (Sara) Curphey, of Silverthorne, Colo., Chad Gibson, of Polk City, Joshua (Alexis) Gibson, of Elkhart, and Brooks Gibson, of Polk City; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Alleman; one brother, Keith Cooper; and one sister Roma Jean Christensen.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, at Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home in Slater.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Madrid Home.
