Jan. 1, 1942 - Dec. 16, 2006

Linda L. Klinger, 64, of Waterloo, died Saturday, Dec. 16, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn., from complications of lymphoma. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 22, at First Presbyterian Church in Waterloo, with burial in West Union Cemetery.

Linda L. Klinger was born Jan. 1, 1942, in West Union, the daughter of Kermit and Joyce (Johnson) Teig. She graduated from West Union High School in 1960. She attended Coe College and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa. She married Allan H. Klinger Aug. 19, 1962, in West Union.

Klinger was executive director of the R.J. McElroy Trust from the time it was founded. Prior to that, she worked as an agent for Northwestern Mutual Life, and taught junior high English and social studies in Denver for a short time after college.

She was on the Waterloo City Council in the 1980s, member of the Waterloo Planning and Zoning Commission, past president of the local chapter of the Iowa Head Injury Association and Junior League of Waterloo-Cedar Falls, past board member of Family and Children's Council, National Dollars for Scholars Board and Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation. She was the first Iowa president for Dollars for Scholars. She received the Ben Franklin Award from the local chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and the Frances Mill Child Advocate Award from the Family and Children's Council.

She is survived by her husband, Allan Klinger, of Waterloo; daughter, Kathryn and her husband James Wieland, of Ames; son, Steven and his wife Allison, of Salt Lake City, Utah; and three grandchildren, Jackson and Lauren Wieland, and Alexis Klinger.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Diane Teig.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, at Locke Funeral Home in Waterloo, where the family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m.

An educational endowment will be established in Linda's name through the Community Foundation of Waterloo/Cedar Falls and Northeast Iowa.
