Nov. 29, 1927-Nov. 3, 2006

Alma Norene Hurley, 78, of Luther, died Friday, Nov. 3, at home. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 8, at First United Methodist Church in Boone. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, rural Luther.

Norene Hurley was born Nov. 29, 1927, in Colfax Township in Boone County, the daughter of Charles and Ethel (Anderson) McVay. She was a 1945 graduate of Luther High School. She married Lyle Hurley July 1, 1952, at Luther Methodist Church.

She was a homemaker and taught piano students in her home for nearly 30 years. During those years, she also was an organist at Luther Methodist Church. She enjoyed music, sewing and family activities. Norene and Lyle were longtime supporters of Iowa State University basketball. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Boone, United Methodist Women, P.E.O., the ISU coffee group and had served as a clerk for Colfax Township.

She is survived by two sons, Lynn Hurley and Lowell (Debbie) Hurley, both of Boone; grandchildren, Clint (Jamie) Hurley, of Lakenheath Air Force Base, England, Tanya Hurley, of Madrid, Erin (Jeremey) Shuey, of Bellevue, Neb., Matthew Hurley and Kyle Hurley, both of Boone; and one great-granddaughter, Taylor Hurley, of England.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lyle, in 2003; and one brother, Wilbur McVay.

Her family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Madrid.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church in Boone.
