Della Lorraine Cook
Oct. 7, 1918-Oct. 26, 2006Della Lorraine Cook, 88, of Nevada, died Thursday, Oct. 26, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, with Pastor David Burling officiating. Burial will be in Nevada Municipal Cemetery.
Della was born Oct. 7, 1918, in Monroe County, to Benjamin and Sarah (Courtney) Lundy. She was raised by foster parents, the Trettin family of Mason City. She was a graduate of Grafton Iowa High School. She married Donald Fredrick Cook Feb. 14, 1954, in Nevada. She retired in 1980 as a telephone operator for General Phone Co. She was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church. She enjoyed transporting people to their appointments and volunteering at the school reading program.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary Lou Miller, of St. Louis, Mo.; one sister, Anna Mae Fontana, of Louisville, Ky.; two grandchildren, Debbi Johnson, of O'Fallon, Mo., and Steve Scott, of Denver, Colo.; two great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Jan. 31, 1969; four sisters, Eleanor Dingeman, Julia, Leatha and Mary; two brothers, Marvin and Cecil; and one grandchild.Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
