THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, October 10, 2006.

Harvey W. Tegtmeier
Nov. 28, 1915-Oct. 7, 2006
Harvey W. Tegtmeier, 90, of Ames and formerly of Omaha, Neb., died Saturday, Oct. 7, at Riverside Manor in Ames from complications of pneumonia. At his request, there will be no formal funeral service at this time. His body will be cremated, with inurnment of the cremains in Omaha and a graveside service at a later date.

Harvey W. Tegtmeier was born Nov. 28, 1915, in rural Plymouth (Jefferson County), Neb., to Henry and Catherine (Mahloch) Tegtmeier. He graduated from Beatrice High School in 1933 and from Chicago's Coyne Electrical School in 1936. He married Edna Papke Sept. 6, 1936. They lived in Omaha until moving to Ames in 1978.

The wedding text for their 70-year-long marriage was, "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." This was fitting, as much of their lives revolved around family and church. In Omaha, they attended First Lutheran Church and later were charter members of Pacific Hills Lutheran Church. He served in many church-related positions, including serving on the district mission board in Nebraska for 18 years. He taught Bible classes in Omaha and later in Ames, trained as a Stephen minister and taught pre-confirmation students at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ames, and later participated in Bible studies at First Evangelical Free Church of Ames.

He is survived by his wife, Edna; four sisters, Pauline Olsen, of Whitewater, Wis., Lorene (Bob) Grabow, of Omaha, L'Maree Reuter, of Richton Park, Ill., and Vianna (Ed) Kolar, of Omaha; three children, Dennis (Delores) Tegtmeier, of Escondido, Calif., Ronald (Victoria) Tegtmeier, of San Diego, and Elaine (Warren) Larson, of Ames; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Harold.

The family requests that friends make contributions to their favorite charity.

Adams Funeral Home in Ames is in charge of arrangements.
