Arline Weston Montgomery
May 8, 1919-Sept. 15, 2006
Arline Weston Montgomery completed her wonderful life Friday, Sept. 15. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Arline Weston Montgomery was born May 8, 1919, in West Union, to Lloyd and Vera (Farrel) Weston, and was raised in Decorah. She attended the Kahler School of Nursing and became a nurse anesthetist in 1940. She met George Montgomery that same year, and in 1943, they became engaged just before shipping out to opposite sides of the globe. She served two years in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps with the Mayo Surgical Unit in New Guinea, Australia, and also in the Philippines, while her fiance served in Europe. They were married in 1946 and enjoyed 60 years of marriage. They moved to Ames in 1949. While raising her family, she also worked at McFarland Clinic and Mary Greeley Medical Center. She traveled extensively, and she and George spent a year working in a mission hospital in Zululand, South Africa. She also volunteered many years for Planned Parenthood in Ames, the blood center and Worldly Goods. She was very active with St. John's Episcopal Church, AA chapter of PEO, and Theta Chi.

Many, many people have benefited from Arline's kindness, compassion, wonderful cooking and love for entertaining. Her home was always open, always welcoming. She had a wonderful and unique sense of style in clothing and decor. She was friend and surrogate mother to innumerable fortunate people from all over the world.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. George Montgomery; daughter, Mary Montgomery, of Albuquerque, N.M.; son, George Montgomery of Ames; daughter, Jo Montgomery, of Seattle; son-in-law, Dale Anderson, of Albuquerque, N.M.; Jane Montgomery, of Ames; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. We will miss her very much.

Please send donations in remembrance to the Ames Public Library or Planned Parenthood of Greater Iowa, 2530 Chamberlain St., Ames, IA, 50014.

Adams Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
