John Thomas Milleman, 30, and Katherine Marie Finn Milleman, 26, of Temple, Texas, died Saturday, Sept. 2, upon impact in an automobile accident near Hamburg, Iowa.A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Ames, with Father Everett Hemann presiding. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.
John was born Nov. 23, 1975, in Iowa City to Leo and Jane (Fieselmann) Milleman. Katherine was born Sept. 13, 1979, in Ames to Timothy and Marilyn (Sealock) Finn. They were graduates of Ames High School, John in 1994 and Katherine in 1998. John earned a bachelor's degree from Vanderbilt University in 1998 and graduated from the University of Iowa Medical School in 2002. Katherine earned a bachelor's degree from Miami University of Ohio in 2002 and graduated from the University of Iowa Law School with a JD in 2005. They were married Sept. 3, 2005, in Des Moines.
John was currently in a urology residency program at Scott and White Clinic at Texas A&M University in Temple, Texas. Katherine was currently practicing law at Fulbright & Jaworski in the firm's health law litigation group in Austin, Texas.
They were enthusiasts of sports, outdoor recreation, fine arts, reading and writing. Their greatest joy in life was to be surrounded by many friends and family.
John was a member of Phi Eta Sigma, the American Medical Association, American Urology Association and Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Katherine was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Pi Beta Phi sorority, Texas and Houston Bar Associations, Houston Young Lawyer's Association and the Greater Houston Society for Healthcare Risk Management.John is survived by his parents, Dr. Leo and Jane Milleman, of Ames; one brother, Dr. Mark Milleman and his wife, Joanne, of Pleasant Valley, Iowa; one sister, Katie and her husband, Mark Charter, of Huxley; his maternal grandparents, Dr. George and Ruth Fieselmann, of Spencer, Iowa; two uncles, Dr. John and Randee Fieselmann, of Iowa City, and Dr. Tom Milleman, of Glen Ellyn, Ill.; one aunt, Mary and Virgil Young, of Waukee; and two cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Tony and Helen Milleman of Spencer, Iowa; and one cousin, Peter Fieselmann.
Katherine is survived by her parents, Timothy and Marilyn Finn, of Ames; brother, Patrick Finn, of New York City; paternal grandmother, Helen M. Finn, of Jefferson, Iowa; aunt, Joanne and Stephen Graham, of Seattle, Wash.; uncles, Richard and Jill Sealock, of Australia, and Robert and Cecile Sealock, of Chapel Hill, N.C.; uncles, Michael Finn, of Dallas, Texas, and Christopher and Pam Finn, of Liberty, Mo.; aunt, Mary Finn, of Dallas, Texas; and nine cousins.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Richard D. Finn; and maternal grandparents, Robert R. and Floy W. Sealock.
A visitation will begin at 4 p.m. and will conclude with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Ames Education Foundation or a memorial fund, which will benefit the academic interests of John and Katherine.Stevens Memorial Chapel is assisting the families with arrangements.
