Bradford Lee Rehor, 52, of Saginaw, Texas, formerly of Nevada, died Sunday, Aug. 27, in Barra, Brazil. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 8, at the Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada with Pastors Myron D. Herzberg and David R. Burling officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will be held in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.
Brad was born Oct. 17, 1953, in Des Moines to Rolland L. and Helen C. (Pearey) Rehor. He graduated from Nevada High School in 1972 and participated in football, wrestling, choir, Thespians, and all loved to hear him play tuba in the pep band. Shortly after high school, Brad was a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He achieved the Presidential Honor Guard during President Nixon's and Ford's tenures. Moving back to Nevada, Brad served as a deputy sheriff for the Story County Sheriff's Department. In 1979, he earned a bachelor of arts degree in psychology and secondary education from the American University in Washington D.C. Upon graduation, Brad entered the banking industry, which included stops in Florida, Iowa, Minnesota and Texas. During this time, Amanda, his first daughter, was born in Florida, his second daughter, Jessica, was born in Iowa, and his third daughter, Katie, was born in Texas. Being a true entrepreneur, he purchased RDS products, a manufacturing company, making fittings, adapters and other machine parts.
Martial arts have been a life-long interest where he continued to compete into his early 50's. Brad learned to love judo, wrestling and Jiu-Jitsu. He is the only American-Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt to win two world titles in his division and open categories. Brad continued to win international titles in all three sports.
Brad is survived by his wife, Denise K. Rehor, of Saginaw, Texas; his parents, Rolland and Helen Rehor, of Nevada; three daughters, Amanda L. (Andrew) Dignum, Jessica D. Rehor and Katherine A. Rehor, all of Ft. Worth, Texas; a step-son, Jason G. Weigel, of Omaha, Nebraska; a brother, James R. (Melanie) Rehor, of Shawnee, Kan., and their children Gabby and Ellie Rehor; a sister, Nancy K. (Kurt) Rasmussen, of Palm Harbor, Fla., and their children Paul, Blake, and Paige Rasmussen; and parents-in-law, Willard and Lois Gerlach, of Nevada.
Brad was preceded in death by his grandparents, Louie and Ethel Rehor and Vernie and Lou Pearey; aunt and uncle Lona Mae (Pearey) and Neil O'Mara; aunt Josephine (Pearey) Kilburn; baby cousin Joseph Hood; and uncles Keith Pearey and Richard Kaldenberg.
Marital arts was a family activity including his daughter, Katie, and his wife, Denise (Gerlach), who he married on Jan. 26, 2002, in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Brad had many passions throughout his life, including biking, flying, hunting, fishing, scuba diving, playing the guitar while singing, boating, horseback riding and, of course, he loved spending time with his family and friends.
A devoted father, Brad's children dominated his thoughts as he considered the girls special gifts from God. In addition, Brad also enjoyed spending time with his step-son, Jason.
Brad was a member of the Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, Trinity Lutheran Church in Ft. Worth, Texas, Rotary, American Legion, World Master Athlete Judo Association, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Association, National Coaches Education Program (USA Wrestling Bronze Certified Coach), private pilot of single engine airplanes, glider, Chamber of Commerce, Ft. Worth Boat Club and Nevada Hall of Fame.
We will miss his crazy jokes, story telling, love and laughter.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, Sept. 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Memorial Lutheran Church, 701 11th Street in Nevada. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
