THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, August 11, 1921, page 1, column 5. “MRS. GEORGE WALTZ. – Martha Ann Waltz was born February 3, 1831, in Bartholomew county, Indiana, and passed away at her home south of Colo, Saturday, July 30th, at the age of ninety years, five months and twenty-seven days. Her husband preceded her in death forty-five years ago. She was united in marriage to George Waltz in Tipton county, Indiana, in the year 1852. In the year 1855 they drove through to Iowa with a team of oxen and settled on the old homestead where she has always lived. To this union were born ten children, four preceding her in death, viz: George Albert and Lucy, who died in infancy; David Henry, who departed this life November 23, 1884, and William Franklin, who died October 3, 1908. Those living are: Joseph Absalom, of Mason City; Mrs. Mary Emaline Baldridge, of Belmond; Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Shaffer, of Belmond; Jacob Rhuben, of Marshalltown, and Charles Edward and Lewis, of this vicinity. She has twenty-sic grandchildren and twenty-seven great grandchildren living. Martha Ann Waltz united with the United Brethren church a number of years ago and had been a faithful member to the end. The funeral services were held at the Dalton church, Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock and interment made in McDaniel cemetery. The services were conducted by Rev. C. E. Lookingbill. Those from a distance attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Ike Shaffer, Mr. and Mrs. John Baldridge, of Belmond; Mr. and Mrs. J. Waltz and son, Floyd, of Marshalltown; Mrs. Sadie Reese, of Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. L. Follett and four daughter, Mrs. Joseph Perigo, Mrs. Joe Jenkins, of Perry; Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Baldridge, of Kanawha; Wm. Baldridge, of Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. and Mrs. John Jones and family of Marshalltown.”
