Marion Newton Stratton, born of pioneer parents, son of S. C. Stratton, Sr., and Mary Ann Newkirk Stratton, born in a log cabin in Ballard Grove, Story City, Iowa, April 17, 1868, and died at the age of 80 years, nine months and one day in Good Samaritan hospital, Jan. 18, 1949, Portland, Ore., and was buried in Greenwood cemetery, Portland, from the Davy Sunnyside funeral home, Jan. 21.
He attended rural school, then road and drove to school at Ames before his parents moved to Ames in 1873. He was graduated from Ames high in 1887 and taught rural schools for the means with which to go through to colleges to become a superintendent. He left for The Dalles, Ore., in August, 1891, and taught many years before he retired. Then he entered the real estate and insurance business at Portland.
His wife and two sons preceded him in death, as did his parents, Luella V., Elta L., and Hattie M., and a brother, Ephraim. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. James M. Ball of Ames, and three brothers, W. F. of Nevada, Ia., Homer A. of Carroll, Ia., and S. C., Jr., of the state of Nevada.
