THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, January 6, 1955, page 1, column 1. “Funeral Services Saturday For Maxwell Pioneer. Mrs. Clara (J. C.) Oxley, 87, suffered a stoke on Tuesday morning and passed away Wednesday morning at her farm home south-east of town; she had been in failing health for several years. Funeral services will be held in the Peoria Methodist Church on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. with burial in the family lot in the Peoria Cemetery.”
THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, January 13, 1955, page 1, columns 5 & 6. “Clara Wyanette Oxley Laid To Rest Saturday. Clara Wyanette Oxley, daughter of William C. and Susan C. Carr was born December 7, 1867, and passed away January 5, 1955 at her home one mile east of Peoria, on the farm where she was born, having attained the age of 87 years and 29 days. .. On June 6 1888 she was married to John C. Oxley, who preceded her in death May 22, 1945. To this union were born 4 children, Clyde M. of Maxwell, Susan E., who passed away November 7, 1913, Goldie M. Foster of Des Moines, and Florence A. (Mrs. Fred) Mead of Collins. .. One brother, Wyatt Carr, preceded her in death August 14, 1928. Also a sister Orlanda Carr,who passed away at the early age of 9, before the birth of Mrs. Oxley. .. 5 grandchildren; William C. Ocley, Des Moines, John R. Oxley, Maxwell, Corinee Faelz, Oakland, California, Maxine Oxley, Maxwell, Alice Moore, Collins.” **Some ot the obituary was unreadable due to creases in the newspaper itself.
