Dorothy Clark Gauger died Monday, July 24, one day after enjoying a family celebration of her 90th birthday. She died at home with her husband of nearly 66 years, C.J., at her side.
Dorothy was born in Linneus, Mo. on July 23, 1916, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Samuel Clark. She attended the University of Missouri and Iowa State College, where she graduated with honors in 1939 with a degree in experimental foods. She and C.J. Gauger, who met at the college library, were married on Aug. 23, 1940. Dorothy began her career at the Dairy Council of Kansas City and eventually became a dedicated homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, C.J.; daughters Barbara of Ames, Jan Richards (Gary) of San Jose, Calif., and Jean Gauger (Hiram Rogers) of Knoxville, Tenn., daughter-in-law Charlotte of Ames; and five grandchildren, Benjamin, Elizabeth and Amelia Gauger, and Anne and Matthew Richards. She was preceded in death by her son, Don, in April 2005.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 28, at Adams Funeral Home in Ames. A private burial will be held, followed by a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 29, at Collegiate United Methodist Church in Ames.
Those wishing to make a contribution in Dorothy's honor may select a charity of their choice, in lieu of flowers.
Dorothy was warm, wise and intelligent. Always a lady, she was wonderful to come home to whether you were family or friend.
