WIFE AND MOTHER
Evaline, Wife of Wm. E. Armstrong, Passes Away at the Home of Her Mother, in Nevada, March 10th.
Nevada Representive, March 17th.
Died at the home in this city of her mother, Mrs. Margaret Murphey, March 16th, 1897, Evaline, wife of Wm. E. Armstrong, aged 43 years, 9 months and 16 days.
The above sorrowful event occured at nine o'clock last evening and though long feared, came suddenly in the end. She ate her supper as usual but was later taken worse and the inevitable was then not long delayed. After the sinking there was no time to summon her family from Roland; but Mr. Armstrong, being uneasy about her, had already started for Nevada and arrived half an hour after her death. Eveline Murphey Armstrong was the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Murphey was born at Strawtown, Hamilton county, Indiana, May 30, 1853. She came with her parents in 1855 to Story county, where she ever afterward resided. The family lived on a farm near Johnson's Grove, but came to Nevada in 1859; and here she attended school, played with her future husband and grew up to womanhood. She was married May 1, 1872 to Wm. E. Armstrong and they lived in or about Nevada until 1891, when they removed to Zearing where Mr. Armstrong was editor of the Enterprise, until two years ago he established the Roland Record. Eight children were born to this union of whom three died in infancy, or early childhood, the five living being Chas. E., Leona, Henry, Frank and Glenn, ranging in ages from 23 to 10. Mrs. Armstrong has been in poor health or a confirmed invalid for ten or twelve years, and for the past seven months has been bedfast. Her protracted illness had kept the radius of her acquaintance limited for one of long acquaintance here; but to those who did come within the circle of her friends she was known as a most estimable and self-sacrificing woman and a patient and even cheerful sufferer.
Representative March 24th.
The funeral of Mrs. W. E. Armstrong was conducted Thursday afternoon from the home of her mother, Mrs. Margaret Murphey, by Rev. A. B. Shrader assisted by Rev. J. M. Fegtly. It was large attended, and the remains were laid to rest in the Nevada cemetery.
