TRI COUNTY TIMES, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, April 26, 2006.

Florence Finch, 94, of Kelley died April 19, 2006 at the Madrid Home in Madrid, IA. Funeral services were held Saturday, April 22, 2006 at the Madrid Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Kelley Community Cemetery.

Florence (Phillips) Finch was born March 8, 1912 in Sheldahl, Ia to Charles and Fae (Harden) Phillips. She grew up in the Sheldahl Community where she attended the public school and the Methodist Church. Florence Phillips and Fred Finch of Kelley, IA joined in marriage on January 20, 1932. In the early years of their marriage Fred and Florence resided and farmed at various locations in the Kelley area.

In 1940, Florence and Fred and their young family moved to Kelley where Fred began operating his father's farm, located on the west edge of Kelley. After the death of his father, Calvin B. Finch, Fred and Florence bought this home farm where they lived until Fred passed away in 1972. In the mid 1980's Florence moved back to a home in Kelley that she and Fred had restored in 1948. She lived there until moving to the Madrid Home in January.

Florence was a member of the Kelley Congregational Church and was active in Ladies Aide. She was a member of the Quilters group who created many lovely quilts that were sold to benefit the church. She also treasured the friendships and the monthly activities of the Tuesday Club of Kelley in which she held a long standing membership.

She is survived by two sons, Duane R. Finch (Barbara) of Loveland, OH and Ronald D. Finch (Jean) of Kelley; a daughter, Betty Krane of Austin, TX; nine grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and a sister, Lillian Samson of Ames.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents; husband Fred; a son-in-law, Scott A. Krane and four brothers, Claude, Harold, Donald, and Herbert Phillips.

Memorials maybe made to the Kelley Community Cemetery. Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home in Slater is handling arrangements.
