William M. Cochran (1926-2006)

William M. Cochran, 79, of Phoenix, Arizona, died at his home on March 9, 2006. Bill was born November 15, 1926, at Anita, Iowa, son of Ralph and Florence Martin Cochran. He married Irene Smith on March 5, 1947, in Des Moines.

A graduate of Redfield High School, he farmed briefly before buying the locker at Collins, Iowa. Bill sold the locker to go to work for Hy-Vee as a meat cutter. He worked in stores in Des Moines, Iowa, and Rochester, Minnesota, retiring in 1998. In recent years he worked part-time as groundskeeper at his church.

Survivors include sons Kenneth of Glendale, Arizona; Steve (Sue) of Canon City, Colorado; and daughter Cynde (Jeff Nutting) Cochran of Mesa, Arizona. There are four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers Jim (Nellie) Cochran of Redfield, Iowa; Dick (Joyce) of Victor, Iowa; Bob of Allen, Texas; and sister Beverly Stogdill of Johnston, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife Irene on March 5, 2005.

Services were held at Green Acres Mortuary and Cemetery of Scottsdale, Arizona. Memorials to the American Heart Association may be sent to Steve Cochran, 1977 Benny Ave., Canon City, CO 81212.
