STONE, MARY ANN DIGBY (MRS. THOMAS STONE) (1868-1912)
THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, May 2, 1912, page 1, column 4. “OBITUARY – Mary Ann Digby was born in Lancashire, England, March 3, 1868, and died at St. Thomas hospital in Marshalltown, Saturday, April 27th, 1912, after an illness of several weeks duration, cause of her death being abdominal cancer. She came to this country with her parents in 1870, settling in Greene county, Wisconsin, and later in 1873, they removed to Polk county, Iowa, where she resided until this spring, when she with her family moved to a farm near Colo. She was married to Thomas Stone in 1884, who survives her. She leaves six children and three grandchildren to mourn her loss. Four children died in infancy. She also leaves a mother, Mrs. M. Digby, and two brothers John and Geo. Digby of Des Moines. The living children are: Marion Stone, of Colo; Mrs. Florence Backous, of Maxwell; Mrs. Viola Whitmore, of Collins; and John, Mabel and Homer at home. Funeral services were held at the Peoria M. P., Church Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock, conducted by Rev. Manning, of Colo, after which interment was made in the Peoria Cemetery.” “CARD OF THANKS – We extend our sincere thanks to the friends ad neighbors who rendered such kindly assistance and sympathy during the illness and death of our wife and mother. Thomas Stone and family.”
