THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, March 24, 2006.
March 14, 1915-March 19, 2006
Lucille Soesbe died peacefully Sunday, March 19, at Story County Medical Center, five days after celebrating her 91st birthday.
Lucille Maxine Segar was born March 14, 1915, in Webster City. She grew up there and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1932. In 1935, she married Paul E. Soesbe, a lineman for American Telephone and Telegraph Company. In 1941, they moved to Ames, where he had accepted a position beginning as a lineman with the city of Ames electrical department, where he worked until his death in 1975.
She was a homemaker until 1962, when she received a real estate sales license and was a real estate salesperson and broker until she retired in 1994. During those years, she served on several committees for Ames Multiple Listing Service. She especially enjoyed meeting people.
The daughter of a carpenter and music teacher, she was raised in a home built by her father that was filled with music and robust cheer provided by five brothers and one sister. She loved to play bridge and to go in her camper on fishing trips. Friends and colleagues recall her gentle spirit, her good humor and the Midwestern values of quiet integrity, thrift, honesty and unconquerable spirit she imparted to her children.
She is survived by one brother, Max, of Vista, Calif.; two sons, Jerrold Soesbe of Champaign, Ill., and Stephan Soesbe of Nevada; one daughter, Kay Ewald of Tallahassee, Fla.; one grandson; and six granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; one son, Keith; and one granddaughter, Logan Ewald.
No memorial service is planned. The family will receive visitors at home at a time to be announced later. Memorial contributions may be made to the Homeward Hospice in Ames.
