THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, February 28, 2006.

Geneva Beatrice "Bea" Carlson, 93, died Sunday, Feb. 26, at Sunnyview Care Center in Ankeny. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 1, at Garden Prairie United Church of Christ in rural Madrid. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, east of Luther.

Bea was born Oct. 6, 1912, in Earlham, to John E. and Nancy June (Neff) Bechtel. She was a 1931 graduate of Earlham High School and attended Iowa Methodist Nursing School in Des Moines. She married Vern H. Carlson March 10, 1934, in Atlantic. She was formerly employed with the Madrid Home as a licensed practical nurse for nearly 20 years, until she retired in 1974. She was a member of Garden Prairie United Church of Christ, where she was formerly active in the church circle. Her passion was quilting and sewing; she was an awesome seamstress.
She is survived and lovingly remembered by her three children, Donald G. Carlson and his wife Carol of Des Moines, Bonnie Bea Rolph and her husband Gordon of Kelley and Bruce R. Carlson and his wife Kathryn also of Des Moines; 17 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vern H. Carlson on Aug. 27, 1990; and her brother and sister.

Visitation will be after 5 tonight at Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Madrid, where the family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Garden Prairie United Church of Christ.
