WILL OF RETIRED COLLINS FARMER GIVES BEQUESTS TO CHURCHES AND CO. HOSPITAL

The will of Sherman A. Bates, Collins, a retired bachelor farmer, shows his respect for churches and organizations interested in welfare and health of people. His bequests are outright gifts.

He recites in this will filed Friday, that was made Jan. 7, 1957 that he is unmarried and has no close relatives. He goes on to say that he is "aware of the good that they (the churches) accomplish in this country and in the communities where they exist and function."

He recites that he is not a church member, yet he holds them in his esteem.

The bequests run:

To his niece, Hazel Holmes, $1,000

To the Peoria Church, 3 1/2 miles southeast of Maxwell, $5,000. His parents are buried there.

To the Story County Hospital, $5,000

To Collins Methodist Church, $1,000

To Christian Church, Collins, $1,000

To United Brethren Church, Collins, $1,000

The will provides for a brother, Grant Bates, who died in the County Home, to have $3,000 administed by his executors and more, if needed.

All the residue is to go to his nieces and nephews, and to their children, if any, in proportionate shares. Vern Holmes and Elmer Smith are named executors.
