Died: November 30, 1996 Orange City, Iowa

Peter Lockhorst, 69, of Ireton died suddenly Sat. Nov. 30 at the Orange City Municipal Hospital.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. Tues. Dec. 3 at the Christian Reformed Church in Ireton with the Rev. Gary Luurtsema officiating.

Lockhorst was born April 17, 1927 in Sioux Center, the son of Peter and Christina (Weyers) Lockhorst. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Priscilla De Groot on Nov. 28, 1950 in Ireton. He ran a grinding business in Ireton and in 1959 went into partnership in the Ireton Hardware Store. He started his own trucking business in 1963 which he ran until 1979.

He was a member of the Ireton Christian Reformed Church and the American Legion Bertram Post 276 in Ireton. He served on the Ireton Fire Department for 20 years.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Charlotte Lockhorst, Donna and her husband Willard Koopmans and Laurie Lockhorst, all of Ireton; two brothers and their wives, Don and Deanna of Ireton and Paul and Geri of Hawarden; five sisters and their husbands, Adrianna and Darold Bultman of Hawarden, Jeanette and Fred Boogerd of Hull, Dorothy and Melvin Hulshof of Ireton, Christina and Garold Cleveringa of Sioux Center and Grace and Herman Oldenkamp of Orange City; and six grandchildren.
