Funeral service for Andrew E. Kanengieter 98 of Sheldon who passed away Tuesday February 3, 2026 at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday February 16, 2026 at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. Rev. Paul Van Maaren will officiate with burial in the East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon. Visitation with the family present will be from 3 to 5 P.M. Sunday, February 15, 2026 at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. Arrangements are under the care of the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.

Andrew Eilert Kanengieter the son of Andrew E. and Grace (Dreesen) Kanengieter was born May 23, 1927 in Little Rock, Iowa. He received his education in country schools and because of his father’s illness he began farming the family farm. On May 25, 1948 he was united in marriage to Earlene Esther Rosenboom in the Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock, Iowa. Andrew had worked for Van Beek Gas Station and Big 4 bean soybean processing plant; he and his wife had farmed in the Sheldon area for over 60 years. His wife preceded him in death on January 15, 2009 in Sheldon, Iowa. On September 29, 2011 he was united in marriage to Muriel Blankers Vander Wilt in Sheldon, Iowa. The couple made their home in Sheldon and enjoyed winters in Muriel’s condo in Florida. He passed away on Tuesday February 3,2026 at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center reaching the age of 98 years 8 months and 10 days.
He was a former member of Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon and in 2011 joined the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. He enjoyed listening to Christian music, fishing, his yearly family vacations, taking road trips. His kids all had Volkswagen’s once they could drive and Andrew was their mechanic keeping them on the road.
Andrew will be lovingly remembered by his wife Muriel of Sheldon; his children Arlyn (Ann) Kanengieter of Sparta, Tennessee, Marcene (Doug) Kruger of New Bern, North Carolina; Leon (Mary) Kanengieter of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Judy Van Wyk of Sanborn, Iowa; Denise Richter of Kimball, Nebraska; 11 grandchildren Justin, Brach, Chad, Jesse, Matt, Jason, Laura, Renae, Brianne, Anna,and RaeLynn; 18 great grandchildren; Muriel’s family her children and grandchildren; a brother Everon Kanengieter, two sisters Arlene Rickabaugh and Erma Winter, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Earlene, two sons-in-law John Van Wyk and Ron Richter, parents, 6 sisters and their husbands, Mattie (Wilke) Harms, Helen (Sievert) Dammer, Janet (Clyde) Heitbrink, Dena (Harold) Kruse, LuElla (Elmer) Jager, Grace (Ray) Willemssen, two brothers and their wives Elmer (Barbara) Kanengieter and Delbert (Marjorie) Kanengieter; brothers-in-laws Don Rickabaugh and Harm Winter and sister-in-law Joyce Kanengieter
