Services for Sylvia J. Buyert, age 87, of Sheldon who passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2024. Her memorial service will be 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon with Pastor Brian Dunn, officiating.

Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Memory Garden Cemetery in Sioux Center, Iowa

Visitation will be after 3 P.M. with family present from 5 to 7 P.M. on Friday, November 15, 2024, at Andringa Funeral Home in Sheldon.

Sylvia Joyce Buyert was born on July 11, 1937, in Sioux Center, Iowa and is the daughter of Clarence and Angeline (Rens) Sybesma Bekius. She graduated in 1954 from Western Christian High School in Hull. Throughout her youth and her life, she enjoyed spending time with her kids and grandkids, eating ice cream, drinking coffee, playing accordion and piano, gardening, flowers, crocheting and knitting, fishing, puzzles, computer games, sitting in the sun, and swimming.

On January 17, 1957, Sylvia was united in marriage to Matthew (Bob) Buyert in Sioux center by BJ Haan. The couple settled in Sioux Center and eventually moved to Sheldon, where they raised their 7 children. Sylvia was a member of First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon. Prior to marriage, she worked in a restaurant and did ironing. Once moved to Sheldon, she was a homemaker until the children were in school. After this, she worked as an aide for Home Health and Oak Park, retiring in 1999.

Bob preceded Sylvia in death on April 28, 2008. Sylvia remained living in her home in Sheldon, until she moved to her youngest daughter’s home by Hospers in August 2024, where she later passed peacefully and was met by Jesus and ‘Dad’. Sylvia passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2024, reaching the age of 87 years, 3 months, and 28 days.

Left to cherish her memories are her children: Joyce (Ron) Van Meeteren of Sheldon, Iowa; Claire Buyert of Clinton, Iowa; Garvin (Karen) Buyert of Rock Valley, Iowa; Larue Westemeyer of Iowa City, Iowa; Vernell (Lisa) Buyert of Sheldon, Iowa; Angela (Jevon) Klyn of Sheldon, Iowa; Andrea (Rick) Theis of Hospers, Iowa; nineteen grandchildren: Jason (Tricia) Van Meeteren, Matthew Van Meeteren, Chad (Rita) Van Meeteren, Cheri (Pat) Garvin, Joshua (Tabitha) Buyert, Adam Buyert, Amber (Michael) Van Driel, Zachary (Kelsey) Westemeyer, Molly (Sean) Embers, Kelsey (Sam) Storm, Travis Buyert, Tyler (Laney) Buyert, Jeremy Klyn, Amanda (Andrew) Reps, Janessa Klyn, Alexa (Jamieson) Turnage, Anthony Klyn, Jessica (Dustin) De Wild, Austin (Amber) Theis; nineteen great grandchildren; siblings: Syne Sybesma of Ketchikan, Alaska and Myra (Earl) Heibult of Albuquerque, New Mexico. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law: Arlin Buyert, Goldie (Aiko) Kamies, and Terry Vrieze; and many other relatives and friends.

Sylvia is preceded in death by her parents, husband, five sisters-in-law, and five brothers-in-law.
