Larry Arens, age 81 of Remsen, IA passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM Monday, July 8, 2024 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, IA with Rev. Timothy Pick officiating and Rev. Thomas Schultes concelebrating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation with family present will be 4-7 PM. Sunday, there will be a Knights of Columbus rosary, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Chalice Presentation and vigil prayer service at 5 PM at the church. Visitation will resume from 9:30-10:15 AM on Monday at the church. Services have been entrusted to the Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Service will be live-streamed at www.fischfh.com

Larry was born Dec. 2, 1942 in Alton, IA, the son of Kenneth & Elvira (Mousel) Arens. He was raised on the family farm near Remsen and received his education from Remsen St. Mary’s Schools graduating in 1961. He then entered the United States National Guard and served from 1961 until 1964.

On Feb. 4, 1967 he married Carolyn Schnurr at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Hospers, IA. The couple made their home on a farm near Remsen. Over the years besides farming, Larry worked at the Remsen Elevator, Jaminet Trucking, Fid’s Feed Supply and was currently still working at Gengler Feed and driving bus for the Remsen School System. With all the jobs through his life he truly loved farming the most.

Larry was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. His passions were always centered around family, family fishing trips, bowling, collecting antique trucks and tractors. He loved supporting his kids and grand-kids in every extra-curricular event they participated in.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn of Remsen, IA; five children, Khris (Mark) Blackburn of Sioux City, IA, Beth (Jeff) Peters of Le Mars, IA, Ken (Robin) Arens of Lavista, NE, Bryan (Brenda) Arens of Remsen, IA, Kelly (Bart) Galles of Remsen, IA; 16 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; 12 siblings, Mike Arens, Shirley (Ray) Harpenau, Janet Fiedler, Joyce Arens all of Remsen, IA, Patricia (Richard) Winokur of Pittsboro, NC, Lorna (Jim) Full of Littleton, CO, Jack (Patricia) Arens of Thorton, CO, Richard (Bonnie) Arens, Frank (Linda) Arens both of Remsen, IA, Marge Harmelink of Omaha, NE, Mary Ann Arens of Remsen, IA, Kendra (Joe) Schroeder of Le Mars, IA; In-laws, Delores (Marvin) Schultes of Hastings, NE, Rich (Judy) Schnurr of Hospers, IA, Archbishop Dennis M. Schnurr of Cincinnati, OH, Mike Schnurr, Irene (Scott) Foreman both of Alton, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Leon Fiedler; two nieces, Stacie Fiedler and Corbin Arens; nephew, Russell Harpenau.

Casket bearers will be Mitchell Trejo, Brett Galles, Alex Peters, Ethan Peters, Benjamin Arens & AJ Arens.
