Donald “Don” Clifford Dimmick, age 87, died peacefully on Friday, May 31st at the Hawarden Regional Healthcare Hospital surrounded by his four children.

A Prayer Service will be held Sunday evening, June 2, at 7:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, LCMS in Hawarden, Iowa. His family will greet friends following the service. The Memorial Service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June the 3rd also at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Joshua Lowe officiating. The Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden is assisting the family. The Memorial Service will be livestreamed on the Trinity Lutheran Church Facebook page.

Don was born on October 12, 1936, on the family farm in rural Akron. As an 8-yr old, his after-school chore was gathering wood to heat the family home. At this same age, he learned to drive while sitting on a peach crate in the family model-A. His two sisters, Margaret and Barb, enjoyed riding along in the rumble seat. He attended country school near Akron until age 13 and in 1949 the family moved to Hawarden. At age 16, Don learned to drive a gravel truck to help with the family business and at 18, Don graduated from Hawarden High School.

On June 26, 1959, Don married Marjorie Bauder. In June of this year (2024), they would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Anyone who knew Marge and Don always thought of them as one - they were always together. They were life-long residents of Hawarden, Iowa.

Don was very grateful for having shared his life with his wife, Marge, of 64 years. Their marriage was blessed with four children: Lisa (Matt) Miller of Brookings SD, Lynn Baldwin of Kansas City, MO, Scott (Michelle) Dimmick of Kansas City, MO, and Dawn (Matt) Hummel of Hawarden. He is also survived by his two sisters, Margaret Berg of Omaha, NE and Barb Cain of Sioux City, IA and two brothers-in-law Darrell (Ruth) Bauder of Frazee, MN and Larry (Joann) Bauder of Hawarden. Don was also blessed with 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Don opened a Sears catalog store in downtown Hawarden in the early 1970’s. After more than a decade as a small-town businessman, Don continued his career as an accountant at Siouxland Implement in Ireton, Iowa.

Don was a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church; his faith was very, very dear to him. Through the years of his children and grandchildren growing up, Don loved attending West Sioux events and was also an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his children and grandchildren. Those that knew Don, always appreciated his quick wit and sharp sense of humor.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Hanna and Clifford Dimmick; his brothers-in-law, Kenneth Cain and John Berg; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Bauder.
