Inwood, IA: Charles Roger Niemeyer, 84, of Inwood, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at Sioux Center Health in Sioux Center, Iowa. A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 30, at 11:00 AM at the Inwood Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Tim Ouwinga officiating. The service can be livestreamed at https://www.facebook.com/InwoodCRC. Burial will follow at Richland Cemetery of Inwood. Visitation, with the family present, will be held prior to the funeral service from 9:30-10:30 AM at Inwood CRC.

Memorials may be directed to Inwood Christian School (https://www.inwoodchristian.com/). Porter Funeral Home of Inwood has been entrusted with funeral arrangements for Charlie.

Charles Roger Niemeyer was born in the slough just outside of Inwood, Iowa, on December 9, 1939, and was raised on a farm near Alvord, Iowa. Growing up, Charlie spent time helping on his parents’ farm and attended a country school during his elementary years. He attended West Lyon in Inwood for high school where he was an active member of FFA and enjoyed raising and showing steers. In 1955, he was awarded the title of Grand Champion at the Lyon County Fair by the Sioux City Livestock Judging Contest. In addition to the FFA, Charlie found he enjoyed singing and he participated in choirs, small groups, and as a soloist, winning the opportunity to compete at the state level in Des Moines.

Charlie was a faithful husband and committed father who loved the Lord. Just after graduation, he moved to Colorado and found work as a Rancher initially and on the Railroad later. This is where he met and married his first wife, Renee. Shortly after their wedding, they moved back to Iowa where he pursued his life’s calling of being a farmer. Together they had four children – Tim, Dan, Rebecca, and Mark.

Charlie was most happy when he could be in the fields working the dirt. For almost 50 years, he worked raising crops of corn and beans, and livestock mostly focused on cattle and pigs. Charlie was a fan of ‘red’ tractors. He used his Internationals in the fields, and he also competed in many local tractor-pulls. Later, after he retired, he collected a few older models and enjoyed participating in several fundraising tractor rides with his International 504 Utility and his Farmall 706.

Other hobbies that Charlie enjoyed over the years included hunting deer and pheasant, singing in churches and performing with his quartet, traveling with Renee and the kids throughout the country, attending his grandchildren’s activities, and riding his 4-wheeler through the hillsides.

After Charlie’s first wife Renee died in 2018, God blessed him with a second wife, Diane. Together Charlie and Diane were able to spend his last few years enjoying companionship with each other and friends and kept busy attending many local events.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Alice (Ver Beek) Niemeyer; brother, Bill Niemeyer; and his first wife, Renee Niemeyer.

Survivors include Charlie’s second wife, Diane (Marra) Niemeyer; four children from his first marriage, Tim (Mary) Niemeyer of Alvord, IA, Dan (Lisa) Niemeyer of Hardwick, MN, Rebecca (Robert) Rens of Sioux Center, IA, and Mark (Shannon) Niemeyer of Sioux Falls, SD; two siblings, Caroline Van Der Sluis of California and Ellsworth (Lois) Niemeyer of Pheonix, AZ; eleven grandchildren, Jesse (JoLynne) Niemeyer, Stacia (Jeremy) Sirovy, Olivia (Dustin) Van Beek, Brooke (Jayme) Rozeboom, Dayne (Nicole) Niemeyer, Isabella Niemeyer, Amber Rens, Amanda (Peyton) Griesert, Amelia Rens, Madison Niemeyer, and Isaac Niemeyer; and six great-grandchildren, Jett, Krayton, Tatum, Hayden, Loghan and Lennon.
