Arthur Visser, 86, of Hawarden, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Memorial Service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2024, at First Baptist Church in Hawarden, Iowa with Rev. David Moore officiating. Burial of the cremated remains with military rites will follow at Grace Hill Cemetery. The Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden is assisting the family.

Art, son of Tony and Ruth (Mieras) Visser, was born on September 5, 1937, in Union County, South Dakota. He grew up on a farm before serving in the US Air Force and earning his Master’s Degree. He held various positions in teaching and administration throughout his career.

Art loved to paint — especially birds, seascapes, and landscapes. He had a knack for Cryptograms, Sudoku, and Scrabble. He enjoyed studying The Bible and discussing its meaning with others.

When he returned to Hawarden in his golden years, he was active in the American Legion and enjoyed cheering for the local sports teams.

Art is survived by 8 grandchildren and 4 children: Dan Scott, Anne Williams, Armando Visser, and Brian Visser.
