Oswald, Jean (Mrs. David) 1938-2024

Jean Diane Oswald, age 86, of Orange City, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024, at the Orange City Area Health System.

A visitation with the family present will be held on Saturday, May 4, from 9:30 to 10:30am, at Faith Lutheran Church in Orange City. A funeral service will begin at 10:30am, at the church, with the Rev. Thomas Batchelder officiating. Following a time of lunch and fellowship, interment will take place at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery near Hinton. The Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City is in charge of arrangements.

Jean was born on April 21, 1938, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the daughter of Herman and Hilda (Witt) Laufenberg and was baptized on July 17, 1938. She was raised in West Allis, Wisconsin, where she attended school and was confirmed on March 18, 1951.

On August 11, 1962, she was united in marriage to David Oswald in Milwaukee. David was ordained into the Holy Ministry on July 14, 1963, and was installed as pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Hinton. Over the years, they continued to serve at a number of churches including, Chapel of the Cross in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia, Iowa, and Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bettendorf, Iowa until David’s passing on June 15, 1994. Jean later moved to Minnesota and Northwest Iowa to be closer to her family.

Jean enjoyed participating in Bible studies, reading, gardening, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her four children and their spouses, Lori and Bruce Tuttle, of Orange City; Daniel and Bobbi Oswald, of Frankin, Tennessee; Brent and Anne Oswald, of Plymouth, Minnesota; and Jennifer and Travis Korver, of Orange City; eleven grandchildren, Matthew, Michael (Erika), and Amy Tuttle; Tyler, Alycia, and Brayden Oswald; Henry, Emily, and Ryan Oswald; and Davis and Carson Korver; a great-grandchild, Levi Tuttle; sisters and brothers-in-law, Yvonne Laufenberg von Bargen, Rev. Arthur (Jane) Oswald, and Rev. Wallace Oswald.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Harvey, Ronald (Lois), and Lyle (Helen) Laufenberg, sisters-in-law, Esther (Dr. Bruce) Karolus, and Helen Oswald; and brother-in-law Rev. Orval (Lois) Oswald.

Memorials will be given to the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod missions.
