Marcia Gayle was born on July 4, 1949, in Rock Rapids, the daughter of Joseph and Grace (Harmsen) Van Hill. She was raised in Rock Rapids and graduated from the Western Christian High School in Hull. After a couple of years of college, she taught for two years at the Doon Christian School.

On June 11, 1970, she was united in marriage to Bill Jay Saeger, at the First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids. For their first year of marriage, they lived in Edgerton, Minnesota, and then moved to Rock Rapids. During this time, she taught at the Leota Christian School. In 1973, the couple settled in Orange City, where Marcia started an in-home daycare so she could work while raising their four children. Once her children were all of school age, she began working as a paraprofessional teacher at the Orange City Christian School, which she did for fifteen years. In 1998, Marcia was diagnosed with Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis. Despite her diagnosis, her attitude remained positive, even as the disease slowly progressed.

Mrs. Saeger was a member of the Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Orange City, and was active in the Harmony Circle, as a shepherd, and decorating the Sunday School bulletin boards. She enjoyed baking, especially Christmas goodies, coordinating Secret Santa amongst her family, and playing April Fool’s jokes on everyone. She looked forward to spending time with her family and attending as many of her grandchildren’s events as possible.

Survivors include her husband of more than 53 years, Bill, of Orange City; four children, Jeff Saeger, of Orange City; Shelly, and her husband, Jon Meyers, of Olathe, Kansas; Scott Saeger, and his wife, Christy, of Rock Valley; and Tami, and her husband, Travis De Jong, of Orange City; nine grandchildren, Dillan De Jong, and his wife, Erin; Landon De Jong, Aaron De Jong, Ross Saeger, Katie Saeger, Kelsi Saeger, Savannah Meyers, Zoe Meyers, and Isaac Meyers; a brother and his wife, Gilbert and Alina Van Hill, of Smithfield, Virginia; and three sisters-in-law, Marsha Van Hill, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Jackie, and her husband, Merlin Groen, of Rock Rapids; and Holly, and her husband, Merlin Bylsma, of Orange City; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Norman Van Hill; a sister, Cathy Rozenboom; and a great-niece, Kaitlin Spelbring.

Memorials will be given to the Orange City Christian School.
