Sye Henry was born on December 16, 1933, near Maurice, the oldest of eight children born to William E.J. and Johanna (Mulder) Roghair. He was raised on his parents’ farm northeast of Alton and attended the Floyd Independent Country School No. 28, and the Northwestern Classical Academy in Orange City, before graduating from Newkirk High School. He attended Westmar College in Le Mars for one year before enlisting in the United States Army in 1955. He served as a weapons instructor and small arms repairman, receiving awards in sharpshooting, rifle and carbine, and marksman pistol, before his honorable discharge in 1958.

On August 15, 1961, he was united in marriage to Ruth Heusinkveld at the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center. Together they made their home on his family’s farm, where they raised their family and farmed for more than 53 years. In 2000, Sye retired from row crop farming, and he and Ruth focused on their flower gardens, restoring their 1916 barn, and traveling with their Harley or camper. In 2014 they moved to Orange City, and later to the Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community. In 2020, Sye became a resident at the Prairie Ridge Care Center.

Sye Hank was currently a member of the Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Orange City and had previously been a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Hospers. In earlier years, he enjoyed being a part of the Siouxland Iris Society, the Federated Garden Club of Iowa, and the Iowa Barn Foundation. He looked forward to spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s special events.

Survivors include his wife of more than 62 years, Ruth, of Orange City; two daughters and their husbands, Laura and Alan Grigsby, of Hinton; and Jody and Scott Dadisman, of West Des Moines; seven grandchildren, Alyssa Grigsby; Daniel Grigsby; Karen Grigsby; Mark Dadisman, and his wife, Brikenya; Kyle Dadisman, and his wife, Mia; Lynae Dadisman; and Bethany Dadisman; two great-grandchildren, Freya and Winter; four sisters, Mary Woudstra, Caroline Valencia, Sylvia Bellonger, and Wilma “Billie” Muilenburg; and Ruth’s brother and his wife, Virgil and Donna Heusinkveld; along with many nieces and nephews.
