After graduating from high school, she worked for Sterit Brothers Grocery, Perkins Corner Café (Droog Service), and Tri State Livestock in Sioux Center.

On March 28, 1951, she married Bernard Allan Krommendyk at the American Reformed Church in Hull. She and “Bud” lived on his parents’ farm until 1973, when they moved to an acreage near Hull and “Lou” helped her daughter a few days a week at the Countryside Drive Inn in Hull.
