Mr. Jerome “Jerry” Goedhart, age 80, of Orange City, passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at the Orange City Area Health System.

A visitation with the family present will be held on Monday, April 1, from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. There will be a memorial service on Monday, at 2:00pm, at the church with the Rev. Jordan Helming officiating. A private family interment will take place prior to the visitation and service at the Hospers Cemetery near Hospers. The Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City is in charge of arrangements.

Jerome Phillip, who would become known as Jerry, was born on August 24, 1943, in Hospers, the son of Gerard and Adriana Margaret (Schuller) Goedhart. He was raised in Hospers, where he attended the Hospers Grade School and graduated from the Floyd Valley High School in Alton.

On November 10, 1964, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Kay Vander Plaats in Hartley. They made their home in Orange City, where he was the co-owner of G and C Construction and worked as the technology advisor for the Orange City Christian School.

Jerry was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church, in Orange City, where he served as a deacon, elder, and cadet counselor. He enjoyed playing dominoes with his wife and friends, learning about computer technology, and traveling, especially to the mountains.

Survivors include his wife of more than 59 years, Carolyn, of Orange City; two children and their spouses, Kristin and Jeff Beardsworth, of St. Albert, Alberta, Canada; and Michael and Agnes Goedhart, of Park Ridge, Illinois; a granddaughter and her husband, Katie and Sander Vahepold, of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; one great-grandchild, Reese Vahepold; two sisters, Harriett Mitts, of St. Louis, Missouri; and Peggy Vander Meulen, of Orange City; a sister-in-law, Mary Goedhart, of Wesley; Carolyn’s siblings, Thelma, and her husband, Kenny Haack, of Ocheyedan; Dennis Vander Plaats, of Sioux Center; Les Vander Plaats, and his wife, Barb, of Orange City; and Rose, and her husband, Tom Van Engen, of Crestwood, Illinois; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Goedhart; two brothers-in-law, Ron Mitts and Mike Vander Meulen; and a sister-in-law, Gloria Vander Plaats.

Memorials will be given to the Orange City Christian School.
