Mr. Paul Truesdell, age 68, of Hospers, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at his home.

A private family funeral service will be held on Friday, March 15, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City, with the Rev. Travis Else officiating. There will be a public Celebration of Life on Friday, at the Roof Garden Ballroom in Arnold’s Park, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. All those who would like to gather with the family are welcome.

Paul Allen Truesdell was born on January 25, 1956, in Le Mars, the youngest of Myrle and Jane (Steele) Truesdell’s seven children. He spent his youth pushing the boundaries of Le Mars, developing loves for rock music, adventure, and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He was even known to hitchhike his way to Iowa City to catch a football game now and then. After graduating from high school, Paul earned an associate degree from Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City, Iowa. In 1976, he attended a church mixer event in Hospers, where he met Barbara Den Hartog. They married on July 2, 1977, and a year later, the first of their four children was born.

He traveled to various lakes and rivers installing docks for VW Dock Company, developing a profound love for being in and on the water. Day trips to the Iowa Great Lakes ultimately progressed to building a dream home on West Lake Okoboji. He loved it all: skiing, boating, sailing, fishing. He also loved the lake in the winter, snowmobiling and watching the birds and reveling in Winter Games festivities.

Paul eventually managed the Marine Division at Den Hartog Industries in his role as a vice president of the company. His success enabled him to not only enjoy lake time to the fullest, but also to support Iowa Hawkeyes athletics programs. Season tickets to football games were an opportunity to both support his beloved team and spend time with family and friends. Passing this tradition down to his children and grandchildren was one of his proudest accomplishments. Paul’s grandchildren were his pride and joy; he admired their strengths and cheered on every single one of them.

He also took pride in supporting many organizations, churches, schools, and communities through service and philanthropy. He served on boards including Village Northwest, the Floyd Valley School Board, the Pride of the Dutchmen Marching Band Boosters, and the MOC-Floyd Valley Sports Boosters. His passion for innovation and efficiency has left a lasting impact on everything he touched.

Paul is survived by his wife, Barb; his children, Tom (Carrie) Truesdell, of Orange City; Tim (Molly) Truesdell, of Sioux Center; Tyler Truesdell (Lindsay Anderson), of Waukee; and Tracy (Austin) Rozeboom, of Sioux Center; twelve grandchildren, Aiden and Ava Truesdell and Ava and Leif Schmitz, all of Orange City; Micah, Anna, Joshua, and Noah Truesdell, of Sioux Center; and Eden, Gerritt, Wyatt, and Ellianna Rozeboom, of Sioux Center; and siblings Mary Jane Cox, of Centennial, Colorado; Kirk (Kerry) Truesdell, of Kalamazoo, Michigan; Mark (Cathy) Truesdell, of Georgetown, Texas; John Truesdell, of Omaha, Nebraska; Anne (Dave) Dirks of Ankeny; and Ruth (Jim) Dane, of Iowa City.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial gifts may be directed to Rise Ministries and the Hope Haven International Ministries Wheelchair Drive.
