July 29, 1931-June 3, 2012
The oldest of 5 siblings, John was born in Ireton, Iowa in 1931. He moved to California in the early 1950's where he met and married Alice, his wife. He served in the USAF from 1952-1956, but eventually made his home back in California where they raised their four children. He worked construction for many years in the local area and was always ready to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping and fishing with his family, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Alice, his children Debbie (Bob) Gerhart of Gustine, Jim (Vanessa) Harskamp of Fresno, Julie (Louie) Kingston of Winton, and Jeff (Brandi) Harskamp of Broomfield, CO.
He also leaves behind 7 grandchildren, Amber (Todd) Gray, Jonathan (Stephanie) Gerhart, Cameron and Caitlin Harskamp, and Megan, Madison and Cassidy Kingston. He is preceded in death by his great-grand daughter Ava Nicole Gray.
Visitation will be held Monday, June 11, 2012 from 4-7 PM at Allen Mortuary, 247 N. Broadway, Turlock, CA. Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at 10 AM also at Allen Mortuary with burial to follow at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella.
