Lester Robert Ploeger from Sioux
Center was born September 1, 1925 in
Storm Lake to Frederick H. Ploeger and
Amelia Luelf. He graduated from Hayes
High School in May 1942 and served in
WW II from January 1944 to May 1946.
He was with the U.S. Navy NTS in
Farragut, Idaho, USSLST269 and
USSLST923; he was a baker third class in
the South Pacific.
On September 28, 1949 he was married
to Mardelle M. Olberding at St.
Mary's Church in Storm Lake; they lived
in Schaller. In his younger years he
worked for his Uncle Henry and Uncle
Arthur and was a truck driver. After his
marriage, he worked for Walter Mohler as
a tankman for 28 years, then at the
American Popcorn Plant as a foreman and
a funeral director at Farber and Otteman
for 7 1/2 years, retiring in 1990. They
moved to Sioux Center. Lester liked to
fish and was a member of the VFW and a
fireman in Schaller.
