Margaret Klynsma Smit was born August 18, 1911 in Hospers, Iowa. She was the daughter of Nick and Grace (Oldenkamp) Uittenbogaard.
On January 31, 1914 she was united in marriage to John Klynsma at Hospers. They lived in Hospers and Sioux City. John passed away on January 25, 1970.
Margaret was very active in the Hospers Christian School Trash for Cash program and enjoyed gardening.
On October 19, 1983 she married Sam Smit and lived in Sheldon. He passed away on November 15,1989.
In 1990 Margaret moved to the Sheldon Christian Retirement Home and enjoyed the company of many friends close by. Due to ill health she moved to the Sioux Center Community Hospital Wing Facility in 1995.
Left to cherish her memory are four children and their spouses: John Norman and Dorothy Klynsma of Hospers, Frank and Marge Klynsma of Sioux City,Joleen and Charles Vande Kamp of Sioux Center,Carolyn and Danny Heltenberg of Yuma, Colorado. There are 18 grandchildren: Pam VanDen Berg, Deb Jasper, Ed Klynsma, Roxie Foreman, Randy, John, and Don Klysma, Cathy Horstman, Steve Klynsma, Brenda Gonzalez, and Ken Klynsma, Arlin, Carl, and David Vande Kamp and Lynn Clark.
Dana, Jodi, and Mandy Heltenberg. 46 great grandchildren, 5 step children: Ed and Elaine Kats,Arvin and Carol Smit, Aletha and Ivan Blom,Sandy and Verlin Baker, Paul and Mary Smit and many step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
She is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: William and Sarah Uittenbogaard of Lake Park, Iowa, Arlene Kramer of Hospers, Louis and Chris Kroon of Rock Rapids, Iowa,Herm and Winifred Langstraat of Orange City, Iowa and many nieces and nephews. Surviving in laws are Winnie Smit, William Smit, Winnie Poppema, Jennie Waanders, Gerrit Van Bruggen all of Sheldon, and Henry and Nettie Mellema of Orange City, IA
She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters: Tena Kroon and Grace Langstraat and 1 brother in law, Jake Kramer.from original obit.
