Funeral services Monday for Sam Holtrop, merchant

Funeral services were held at the First Christian Reformed Church here at 10:30 A.M. Monday, June 17, for Sam Holtrop, 66, prominent Sioux Center merchant, operator of Sam's Variety store here for 28 years, who died June 13 at the Sioux Center Community Hospital after a two months Illness.

Services were conducted by Rev. Dr. P.Y. De Jong and burial was in Memory Gardens here under direction of Vander Ploeg’s Funeral Home.

Mr. Holtrop was born at Doon September 1, 1907.

He was married to Mina Levering June 20, 1929, at Sheldon, and had been a retailer for nearly 40 years.

He was a World War II veteran and served in the African and Italian theaters of operation.

He had served as a deacon of First Christian Reformed Church here for several years.

Survivors include the widow; three sisters, Mrs. John Gorter of Edgerton, Minn., Mrs. Jake Boer of Sheldon, and Mrs. John Klein of Wyoming, Mich.; and two brothers, Louis of Hawarden and Edward of Chino, Calif.
