Bob Newton age 68, of Newkirk, Iowa, died Sunday, January 14, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society at George, IA.

Visitation will be Friday, January 19th from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George.

Robert “Bob” Vernon Newton, Jr. was born April 28, 1955, at St. Joseph, MO, the son of Robert Vernon and Dorothy Jean (Powell) Newton. Bob grew up in St. Joseph and graduated from Central High School. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Missouri Western State College. Bob worked as a programmer/analyst in the Kansas City area for many years. In 1996, he moved to northwest Iowa and started working at K-Products in Orange City, IA, as a programmer analyst. He later worked at Dakota PC Warehouse in Sioux Center and when they closed he retired. He loved music and spent many hours listening to it and being on his computer. Bob enjoyed playing cards and games like Dominoes, Chinese Checkers, Scrabble and other board games. He and Ruth hosted a New Year’s Eve party for many years. Bob had over twenty years of sobriety. He had several pets over his lifetime. After a twenty-year friendship, he was united in marriage to Ruth Smith on July 9, 2021. This past Sunday, January 14, 2024, Bob died at the George Good Samaritan Society at the age of 68.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Smith of George, IA; sister, Lori Garber of St. Joseph, MO; uncle, Aaron “Bud” Powell of St. Joseph, MO; nieces, Kelly, Tracy and Delaney; nephew, Chris; 7 great nieces all of St. Joseph, MO; father & mother-in-law, Ronald and Bonnie Smith of George, IA; sister-in-law, Mary and Wesley Rowden and their daughter, Kathryn “Katie” Rowden and her daughter, Elizabeth Rowden-Harstad all of Sioux City, IA; brother-in-law, Randy and Lenda Smith of Monkey Island, OK, and his daughter Erica Smith of Hutto, TX; along with many friends, neighbors and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dorothy Jean.
