Mr. Tim Kooima, age 91, of Hull, was called to glory on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at Sioux Center Health.

A visitation with the family present will be held on Friday, March 8, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at the Hull Protestant Reformed Church in Hull. There will be a funeral service on Saturday, March 9, at 10:00am, at the church with the Rev. Stephan Regnerus officiating. Interment will follow the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. The Oolman Funeral Home in Hull is in charge of arrangements.

Tim was born on October 26, 1932, in Hudson, South Dakota, the son of Sam and Sue (Hoekstra) Kooima. He was raised in the Northwest Iowa area and attended several different country and Christian elementary schools before graduating from the Rock Valley High School.

He was united in marriage to Clarine Kooiker on August 25, 1953, at the Hull Protestant Reformed Church. They lived in Hull for a short time until moving to Hopewell, Virginia, in the summer of 1954, where Tim completed his military training. The following year, he was deployed to Korea, where he served in the 8th Army Honor Guard. He was honorably discharged in 1956, and he and Clarine soon moved to a farm near Doon and later to a farm near Rock Valley. In 1974, they settled on a farm south of Doon, where they remained until 2007, when they retired and moved to a house in Hull. In September of 2020, Clarine became a resident of Whispering Heights in Rock Valley. She was called to glory on August 17, 2022.

Tim was a long-time member of the Hull Protestant Reformed Church, where he served as an elder numerous times, and participated in the Men’s Society. He also served on the boards of the Rock Valley Christian School, the Hull Protestant Reformed Christian School, and Community Oil in Rock Valley. He enjoyed traveling with Clarine, going fishing, and taking pictures everywhere he went. Tim loved to spend time with his family, and he especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. His love for raising crops and feeding cattle continued throughout his entire life.

Survivors include his six children and their spouses, Melinda and Marv Van Maanen, of Doon; Sharon and John Keizer, Steve and Rachel Kooima, Glenn and Krista Kooima, Kevin and Joan Kooima, and Mark and Nancy Kooima, all of Hull; 27 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Gary and Joan Kooima, of Hull; a sister, Karen Gaalswyk, of Cannon Falls, Minnesota; two brothers-in-law and their spouses, Alvin and Sally Kooiker, of Hull; A. Memorials are to be given to the Christian school of your choice.
