ALVORD, IOWA ~ Myrna Elbers, 85, of Alvord, Iowa, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2024, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen, Iowa.

Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Trinity Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley, Iowa with Rev. Henry Lengkeek and Rev. Stanley Groothof officiating. The service can be livestreamed at https://vimeo.com/event/4077519. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley. Visitation, with the family present, will be held Friday, February 23, from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley.

Myrna was born April 7, 1938 in Sheldon, Iowa. She was the daughter of Arie and Sadie (Damstra) Vander Plaats. When Myrna was 1 year old, her parents and brother, Wilton, were killed in a vehicle accident. She was adopted by Henry and Katie De Boer of Hospers, Iowa. She attended Hospers Christian Grade School and was a 1957 graduate of Western Christian High in Hull, Iowa.

She was united in marriage to Courtney Elbers of Alvord, Iowa on June 21, 1961 at the First Christian Reformed Church of Hospers, Iowa. They lived and farmed by Alvord. They were married for 62 years.

Myrna enjoyed living and working on the farm, being outdoors, cooking, and baking. She was also employed at the Doon Steakhouse and Dan’s Catering in Inwood, Iowa. Myrna was a member of the Trinity Christian Reformed Church of Rock Valley, Iowa.

Those left to cherish her memories are her husband: Courtney; her children: Carla and Brian Koedam of Sioux Center, Iowa, Mike and Tami Elbers of Rock Valley, Iowa, Carl and Melissa Elbers of Rock Valley, Iowa; 8 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers: Wilton, Harold, infant Gerrit, John, and Gerrit.
