Mr. Harold Hansen, age 95, of Orange City, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.

There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, March 5, at 1:30pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City, with the Rev. Scott Bonestroo officiating. Interment will follow the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City.

Harold Hans Hansen was born on August 20, 1928, in Stanton, Nebraska, one of three children born to Hans and Effie (Clark) Hansen. He was raised in rural Stanton and attended country school and graduated from Stanton High School in 1946. He then moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he studied at the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, graduating with a master’s degree, before returning to Northwest Iowa.

On June 5, 1956, he was united in marriage to Sadie Van Zanten in Le Mars. They lived in the Sioux County area most of their lives, where Harold worked many different jobs, including working at Diamond Vogel for twenty years. Sadie passed away on January 1, 2010, in Orange City, after more than 53 years of marriage. In July of 2015, Harold became a resident of the Prairie Ridge Care Center.

Mr. Hansen was a member of the Alton Reformed Church, where he enjoyed watching the little kids, regularly giving them candy. In his earlier years, he would often deliver church bulletins to those unable to attend. He also enjoyed watching television and listening to classical music.

Survivors include a brother, Loren “Doc” Hansen, of Kingsley; a sister, Edith Tomek, of Table Rock, Nebraska; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, Harold was preceded in death by his son, Joel John Hansen.

Memorials will be given to Village Northwest Unlimited in Sheldon.
