Arlin Van Roekel
Arlin D. Van Roekel was taken home to be with the Lord on Dec. 19, 2023.

Arlin Duane Van Roekel was born on May 22,1936 to John and Sarah (Te Grotenhuis) Van Roekel, the youngest of six boys. He attended country school and graduated from Sioux Center High School.

On Sept. 12, 1958, he married Alvina (Vine) Moss at the First Reformed Church in Hull, IA. They were blessed with two wonderful children, Jon Galen and Sara Beth.

He served two years in the army, from Nov. 1958 to Aug 1960. While stationed in Ulm, Germany, Arlin and Vine enjoyed the opportunity to travel to several European countries.

He began farming at 19 when his father died. Later, he became part owner of Mid Land Vet. He started Van Roekel Realty and served families and businesses throughout Northwest Iowa for over 40 years.

He taught Sunday School and catechism classes at the Sioux Center First Reformed Church. He enjoyed spending several years as Master of Boy Scouts and Master of Cub Scouts.

Arlin loved his time outdoors, enjoying God's wonderful creation. He loved hunting, fishing, and most of all, camping with his family, especially at Yankton, SD. These times were very meaningful to him.

Left to mourn his passing are:

Vine, his wife of 65 years.

Two children and their spouses: Jon (Connie) Van Roekel, Sara (Jeremy) Shepherd

Six grandchildren: Luke (Megan) Van Roekel, Joe (Jessica) Van Roekel, Michelle (Henry) Herman, Kaelyn, Cora, and Eli Shepherd

Four great grandchildren: Tucker Jon, Moses Joseph, Jubilee Joy, Rosemary Joy and one on the way.

Sisters in law: Flossie Van Roekel of Sheldon, IA, Harriet Boote of Sioux Center, IA and Edna (David) Mast of Colorado Springs, CO. and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, John and Sarah, and five brothers: Gershom (Edna), Warren (Lillian), Clinton, Merle (JoAnn), James (Erma Jean), and one brother in law, Edwin Boote.

His favorite scripture was Eccl. 3 and his favorite songs were Because He Lives, Unworthy, It is Well With My Soul, Great Is Thy Faithfulness, Until Then and The Eastern Gate.
