Granville Pioneer Passes Away
John List, one of the early pioneers of the county, was buried at his home near Granville last Thursday. He was born in Alsace Lorrain in 1841 and accordingly 76 years old. At the age of 11 Mr. List came to America and settle at Gelena IL. In 1882 he removed to Sioux County and shortly owned a fine farm of 360 acres, one of the best places in the vicinity. He was married in 1871 to Miss Meyer Walburga.

Seven children and his wife survive. The children are Mrs. Jacob Minten, Mrs. George Cornelius of Granville, Mrs. Peter Hitesdorf of Sleepy Eye MN, Jacob and John list of Alton, Dr. T. S. List of Remsen and Joe List. A large crowd of friends and relatives attended the funeral at Granville, the sermon being preached by Rev. Father Gelemand.

Those present from a distance were Mrs. Jacob Sauer daughter Maggie and son Frank of Darington IA, Mrs. Jacob list and son Adam, Mr. and Mrs. Hendry Oldenburg, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hess all of Galena, John Miller of Orent SD, Mr. and Mrs. James Banks and son and daughter of LeMars, Mrs. Jos. Tierney of Remsen and a large concourse from Alton. Mr. List was the last survivor of his father’s family. He had been somewhat a traveler. In early time he explored the gold fields of Colorado and spent several years in Omaha,
