Barbara Anne Keenan (née Riemersma), age 89, a resident of Naperville, IL since 1978, formerly of Lisle, IL, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at Arbor Terrace Assisted Living Facility in Naperville.

She was born January 13, 1934 in Hospers, IA. Beloved wife of (the late) John A. Keenan, loving mother of Lisa (Phillip) Seeberg of Naperville, adored grandmother of Matthew Keenan Seeberg of Lisle, IL, and Laura Katelyn Seeberg of New York City, NY, devoted daughter of the late James and Mildred Riemersma, dear sister of (the late) Lois (John) Roghair and (the late) Ruth (Dale) Stover, fond aunt of, great aunt, and friend of many.

Barbara grew up in Hospers, IA, and was a graduate of the University of Iowa with a BA in Education, and an MA in Special Education. She loved being a teacher; once telling Lisa how she cried after she got her first paycheck from teaching Kindergarten in Sioux Center, Iowa because she could not believe she was being paid to have so much fun.
She met John at the University of Iowa School for Handicapped Children where she taught and he was on her traffic working as an orderly to assist the students. She spent the last 25 years of her career as a second grade teacher in Lisle School District 202. As a bonus, she was Lisa's second grade math teacher. Barbara was a member of the Community United Methodist Church in Naperville for over 50 years.

After retirement she spent her time with volunteer work, gardening, and knitting. She and John enjoyed traveling during their retirement. Mill St., Naperville, IL 60540. Additional visitation: Friday, October 6th 11:00 AM – 12:00 Noon at Community United Methodist Church, 20 N. Center Street, Naperville, IL 60540. Funeral Service to follow at 12:00 Noon at Church. Interment at Naperville Cemetery, Naperville, IL.
