There will be a funeral service on Saturday, December 30, at 10:00am, at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ireton with the Rev. Michael Boothby officiating. Interment will follow the service at the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in rural Ireton.

A recording will be available following the service.

Andrew Harold was born on October 22, 1979, the youngest son of four children born to Rodney and Nanci (Looft) Jahn. He was baptized on October 26, 1979, at the Jahn farm. His baptism was reaffirmed on March 9, 1980, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, in rural Ireton and he confirmed his faith on May 1, 1994, at the Faith Lutheran Church in Orange City. He grew up on the family farm south of Maurice and graduated from the MOC-Floyd Valley High School in May of 1998, where he was involved in many activities including playing the tuba for the Pride of the Dutchman Marching Band. He then attended, and graduated with an associate degree in Auto Mechanics, from Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, where he met his wife of 23 years, Colene George. They were married on November 25, 2000, and together raised their two sons.

Andy was a devoted husband and wonderful father to Evan and Nathan. He and Colene attended every school music, 4-H, and church event for the boys. They created cherished memories of family vacations every summer, visiting nearly every national park.

He was a hard worker no matter where he was. He was never one to sit by, and always found a project or task to keep himself busy. His most recent projects were getting his Grandpa Harold’s Minneapolis Moline tractor refurbished and "parade ready" and putting genealogy scrapbooks together. He worked as a lumberyard delivery driver for Farmers Cooperative Society in Sioux Center for fifteen and a half years, and for the past four years as a garbage truck driver for Brommer’s Sanitation in Sioux Center.

Andy's life was a testament to the Christian values he held dear, and these were evident in how he treated others, with respect, humility, and genuine kindness. He knew no stranger. His sudden departure serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and to "Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom" (Psalms 90:12) and to "Set our affection on things above." (Colossians 3:2).

Survivors include his loving wife, Colene; their two sons, Evan Rodney and Nathan William, all of McNally; his mother and her husband, Nanci (Looft) and Jim Harskamp, of Sioux Center; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Gus and Sharon George, of Ireton; a brother and his wife, Kyle and Lynne Jahn, and their children, Braden, Ella, Annika, and Casen, of Sioux Center; a sister and her husband, Emily and Robbie Cundy, and their children, Drew, Grant, and Claire, of Sioux Center; a sister-in-law, Suzy Jahn, and her girls, Lynnette, Aubrianna, Elisabeth, and Emeilia, of Phoenix, Arizona; a sister-in-law and her husband, Anna and Jason Britton, of Ireton; and uncles and aunts, Gary and Ruth Grohs, of Sioux City; Char Kramer, of Tea, South Dakota; and Robert and Diane Machmuller, of Council Bluffs; along with numerous cousins.

In addition to his father, Rodney Jahn, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Harold and Gertrude Jahn and Robert and Marylin Looft; a brother, Matthew Jahn; and an aunt, Salli Harmon.

Memorials will be given to Mission Central in Mapleton and the Orphan Grain Train.
