Wichers, Hermina Evelyn 1935-2023

Ms. Hermina Wichers, age 88, of Alton, passed away on Friday, November 17, 2023, at the Orange City Area Health System.

A visitation with the family present will be held on Tuesday, November 21, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. There will be a memorial service on Wednesday, November 22, at 10:30am, at the Faith Lutheran Church in Orange City with the Rev. Thomas Batchelder officiating. Interment will follow the service at the Nassau Township Cemetery near Alton.

Hermina Evelyn was born on June 19, 1935, in Ireton, one of seven children born to Nick E.J. and Dora (Dirksen) Roghair. She was raised in Alton, where she attended school through the eighth grade. For the majority of her life, she made her home in Alton and was currently a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Orange City.

Her strong work ethic was apparent throughout her life. She spent more than 25 years working as a housekeeper at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City, as well as working production at several different businesses in the Orange City area. Hermina liked doing embroidery work, playing cards, games, and piano, and she especially enjoyed decorating. Her family was very important to her, and she looked forward to any time she was able to be with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include three daughters, Jane, and her husband, Bob Gilstrap; and LaVon Ashworth, all of Billings, Montana; and Cindy, and her husband, Don De Jong, of Alton; eight grandchildren, Kyle Romaro, and his wife, Estefiana; Shanon, and her husband, Marcos Lopez; Melissa, and her husband, Billy Cornelius; Kristy, and her husband, Kurt Frederes; Travis De Jong, and his wife, Farrah; Trisha, and her husband, Zach Landhuis; Kristopher Forstrom, and his wife, Shay; and Kyle Forstrom; seventeen great-grandchildren (and another one expected soon); one great-great-grandchild; a brother-in-law, Gene Fenske; and a sister-in-law, Lily Roghair; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard Lee Wichers; a daughter, Kathleen Joy Forstrom; a son-in-law, Jeff Ashworth; and six siblings; Catherine, and her husband Ed Karssen; Edward Roghair, and his wife, Judy; Harriet Boone; Dorothy De Vos; Nick Roghair; and Alvina Fenske.

Memorials will be given to the family for future designation.

A recording will be available following the service.
