Esther Beckman, five years old, was a victim of the flames when the John Beckman home near McNally burned last week. Mr. Beckman built the morning fire and while doing chores discovered the upper part of the house was on fire. Some of the children were still in bed and these with the exception of Esther were rescued uninjured. The little girl died a few hours after she was snatched from the flames.

The 1910 census of Washington Twp. Sioux County lists John Beckmann born 1867 Germany, his wife was Mary Beckmann age 33, the children were Henry 12, Mary 11, Rose 9, Annie 7, Minnie 4, Esther 2 , and Dena 1.

John Henry Beckman was born 16 May 1866 Germany died 18 Sep 1919 Plymouth Co. Iowa, his wife was Mary Gerdes 1877-1967. Children listed were Henry 1897, Mary 1901, Ester 1907-1912, Herman 1916-1971, may have been more.
