Norma Schuster, 91, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away Thursday, October 26, 2023 at the Good Samaritan Society of Le Mars.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at All Saints Catholic Parish – St. James Church in Le Mars. Father Timothy Pick will celebrate Mass. Father Douglas Klein and Father Bruce Lawler will concelebrate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 30, 2023 at All Saints Catholic Parish – St. James Church in Le Mars. There will be a Parish Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a Scriptural Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Norma’s name to the Gehlen Catholic School Endowment Fund and the Le Mars Community Theatre.

Norma Jean Schuster, the daughter of Leo and Cleo (Tritz) Lechtenberg, was born on July 18, 1932 on the family farm near Granville, Iowa. She was her dad’s right-hand farm worker, as she truly loved growing up on the farm. She attended St. Joseph Catholic School in Granville and graduated from there in 1950. Following high school, she went to work for two years at McKennon Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

She was united in marriage to Orville Schuster on November 4, 1953 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Granville. Orville was drafted into the service shortly thereafter. She then went to work at Sacred Heart Hospital in Le Mars for 2 years. Soon after Orville returned from the service, they started Schuster Grain Company, a trucking firm which is now known as Schuster Company. In 1975, Norma started working at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars. For 21 years, she was a loyal employee in the physical therapy department. She truly loved working with the elderly and helping them live a healthier life. Orville passed away on July 23, 2006.

She was a member of All Saints Catholic Parish in Le Mars where she was a eucharistic minister and a member of the Altar Society. She served communion at local nursing homes. After her retirement from Plymouth Manor in 1996, she became a volunteer and started the St. James Hospitality Committee, where she served as chairman for many years. She volunteered at Park Place Assisted Living in Le Mars and received a volunteer award from the Governor for her 20 years of service there. Norma was a past member of Christian Mothers, Catholic Order of Foresters and the Le Mars Eagles Club Auxiliary. Most of all, she loved her family.

Survivors include her 3 children: Steve (Danna) Schuster of Le Mars, Connie Schuster of Ellenton, FL, and Cindy Schuster of St. Pete Beach, FL; 4 grandchildren: Victoria (Matt) Schelbitzki, Brad Robison, Sean Schuster, and Logan Schuster; 2 great grandchildren: Tristen and Grayson Schelbitzki; her sisters: Georgia Becker, Lorna Blumeyer, Mary (Orville) Pottebaum, and Janet (Jeff) Zwagerman; her brother, Jim (Cari) Lechtenberg; her sisters-in-law: Bernice (Gordon) Schneider and Marlene Kuiper; her brother-in-law, Mark Plathe and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Orville Schuster; her daughter, Christy Robison; her brother, Danny Lechtenberg; brothers-in-law, Jerry Hatting, Don Becker, Vern Blumeyer, Brian Kuiper; and her sister-in-law, Tudy Plathe.
